Take aspirin for asthma A single aspirin a day could dramatically reduce susceptibility to asthma among older women by 10pc, a new study in the American journal, Thorax, shows.

Think positively! In a survey conducted in the US, people with serious heart conditions were found to be more than twice as likely to overcome their illness if they believed they would survive.

Put the kettle on Women who drink three cups a day have been shown to be at reduced risk of heart attacks and strokes. Chemicals in tea prevent the build up of fat and cholesterol in the arteries, a French study discovered.

Fish for heart health Dutch researchers found that people who regularly ate oily fish were 55pc less likely to die of a sudden heart attack.

Have a pot at this! The calcium and potassium in a pot of low-fat yogurt significantly reduces blood pressure. The same is true of low-fat milk. However, low-fat yogurt is more than twice as effective.

Snack like Bugs Bunny! A single carrot per day reduces the risk of diabetes among women by 27pc.

Lift fitness levels -- and your mood As little as 10 minutes of exercise per day can bring about a drastic improvement in the life quality of overweight women, say American researchers. Following six months of very moderate exercise, women were shown to be significantly healthier than those who didn't exercise at all.
