The body found on waste ground near Limerick City yesterday remains at the scene pending further technical examination.
A post mortem examination will be carried out later today.
The victim was found in a shallow grave near the city's railway line adjacent to Hyde Road yesterday.
It was discovered by a team of gardaí searching for firearms and weapons in the area.
State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy carried out a preliminary examination last night and the forensic examination of the extensive area where the body was found also continued for much of yesterday evening.
A post mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death will get under way later today.
Gardaí will not speculate on whether this is another feud-related death until they have all the forensic and post mortem results.
It comes just two days after 40-year-old Mark Maloney was shot dead near his home in Garryowen last Saturday.
An 18-year-old who was arrested in connection with a shooting at a house in Southill last Saturday morning is still being questioned by gardaí at Roxboro. His detention was extended yesterday.
Gardaí believe there may be a link between that shooting and the murder later that afternoon of Mark Maloney.
