Just been to a young girl's funeral today and the reason I am bringing it to your attention is that this 14 yr old was waiting on a heart transplant. But unfortunately it was too late for her , but the last few months of her life she became a spokes person for organ donation and to make people aware that just because they carry a drivers licence that does not make them an automatic don er unless they sign the form on the licence. Most people do not sign there drivers licence to become a organ donor so most organs that can save lives are wasted. Over here in Australia at the moment they are trying to get people to put pressure on government to make it law that unless you do not want to be a doner you must sign your licence saying so and this way people can save lives because how many of us say we agree with organ donation but do not sign a drivers licence to say we do just because it can be an effort to do so. What if it was your child ???

I am glad you brought this to our attention, it is something I would like to do. It is sad that this youg girl died at such a young age when she could have been saved. I will pick up a donor card this weekend and sign it, I will also let the missus know that if anything happens to me to make sure my good organs are donated.

I have always thought it should be the other way around that everyone should automatically be donors and if you don't want to then you should carry a card saying do not remove!!

Good Post Mandy - makes us all think, and am sorry for you loss, its terrible to lose someone so young,

Over here your drivers licence has a doner section on it so you would think it would be easy for people just to sign. Tracy was a friends cousin but it could easily have been one of mine or yours

Sorry to raise this subject again but just been to another wake. This person was Irish and was adopted but unfortunately for her it was to late for a doner she was looking for bone marrow match which never came because Irish adaption agency has so much red tape it was to late when came back with information she had already passed away. Her family however are willing to met the family she left behind if they care to do so will keep you posted . I hope they do.
